A critical piece of business software is no longer working since the recent updates.
It will not launch and returns the following error:
(System.Windows.Markup.XamlParseException : Provide value on System.Windows.Baml2006.TypeConverterMarkupExtension’ threw an exception)
I am operating Windows 10, version 20H2 and have .NET framework 4.8.
A colleague suggested that the error is related to recent .NET framework updates. I've tried doing the .NET repair process but that didn't resolve the issue.
I've done a fresh install on the software in question and that hasn't helped.
We're a small business without an IT department so hoping this is something we can remedy with some "how to" guidance.

Hi Hmac. I'm Greg, an Independent Advisor.
What is the software? Have you contacted their Support to see if it's a known issue with possible patch or workaround? If you paid for this software it should have premium Support for just these types of situations. They need to get it running or give you your money back.
Did you do all of these repairs for Net:

Reinstall Net Framework 4.8:

I would also ask at our sister forums for IT Professionals, Q&A forums, as Community is strictly an end-consumer forum. Go here:

There are also good IT Pro forums here:

Based on the results you post back I will have other suggestions if necessary.

Hi Greg,
Thanks for your suggestions.
The software is RETScreen Expert (RETx) maintained by NRCAN and they tell me they have had no other reported issues.
It has a requirement of Microsoft .NET Framework 4.7.2 or higher.
I've launched the repair tool. It goes thru the process but in the end sends error logs to Microsoft because the reinstall fails.
The dialogue box tells me that the reinstall of Net Framework 4.8 failed because I already have a more recent install.
In an attempt to get around that I've followed a tutorial to do a CMD prompt re-install of 4.8.
That seemed to generate all the same screens as in the tutorial but in the end I'm still not able to launch RETx.
I'll try posting on the other forums.
At this point I'm considering buying a cheap laptop just to meet a deadline.
Best,
Heather

Hi Greg,
Thanks for the videos. I had already worked through a couple of them but some were new to me.
Sadly I'm still having no luck. I've done all the tutorials, ticked the boxes and received the Microsoft message that download/repair was successful.
Then when attempting a clean install of RETscreen Expert it gets part way through and generates this error again. Not sure if I've already shared that one or not.
