Error: 17311, Severity: 16, State: 1. SQL Server is terminating because of fatal exception c0000005. This error may be caused by an unhandled Win32 or C++ exception, or by an access violation encountered during exception handling. Check the SQL error log for any related stack dumps or messages. This exception forces SQL Server to shutdown. To recover from this error, restart the server (unless SQLAgent is configured to auto restart).

There are multiple instances on the server, but I am having this problem only in one instance.

There's not much information in the logs to say why. What can I do in more detail to find the problem or fix the problem besides updating to CU3?

You could contact Microsoft support, but I'm pretty sure what their response will be. It's in the final three words of your questions. What's keeping you from updating? Ruud Helderman Mar 2, 2020 at 12:04 @RuudHelderman One of our customer has encountered this problem. They are thinking about to upgrade their SQL Server from 2014 to SQL Server 2019 nowadays. We are searching that if there are any easier solutions to fix this problem besides updating. Madao Mar 2, 2020 at 12:12 Did you "Check the SQL error log for any related stack dumps or messages" like the error tells you to do? What did they say? Why only update to CU3, when CU4 is available? What do you have against updates? Thom A Mar 2, 2020 at 12:12 @Larnu Yes, i checked the SQL error log but i couldn't find any related messages to find what the problem is. We are considering update to CU4 too but we are waiting for a confirmation to do that. Madao Mar 2, 2020 at 12:18
